2017: Engine component
|
Limited life period, power loss: The life period of an engine component is 7 races per season. An engine does not have to be used continuously. A slight power loss occurs during the life period of an engine. A defective engine does not generate points. The same engine component can be used in a maximum of 7 races per season. Defective engines are replaced automatically by the system after the database closing time in case of inactive Amateur or Pro accounts.
Total points: Total points = Qualifying points - Power loss + Race points - Penalty points
Engine assignment 2017: 1. Mercedes (Factory engine): Mercedes 2. TAG Heuer (Customer engine): Red Bull 3. Ferrari (Factory engine): Ferrari 4. Mercedes (Customer engine): Force India, Williams 5. Honda (Factory engine): McLaren 6. Renault (Customer engine): Toro Rosso 7. Renault (Factory engine): Renault 8. Ferrari (Customer engine 2017): Haas 9. Ferrari (Customer engine 2016): Sauber

I love this change. It adds another nuance that mirrors the "real" F1 and adds particular complexity for those using ERS. Well played, Mav.
And good luck everyone!

I saw the mentioning of 4 engines per year in this thread and it made me wonder whether that was a quick reference only to reality, or if it meant here too. Always better to ask and be sure in that case!

Be sure that no one can use an engine more than 7 times. Later on I am going to offer an engine usage statistic for each team.
You can use all of the 9 engines without a penalty during the season. Where do see in the rules something else?
To simplify the rules (not the game) is on my to-do list. But I have to find some time to implement it.

Ok, that's making things clearer. No using any one part more than 7 times. The site must be fairly clever to keep track of how many times each time uses each engine component!
Is there anything stopping me/any penalty if I use all 9 engine components over the course of the year?
I do think the rules could be a bit clearer, as the added complexity COULD confuse/discourage the less die-hard competitors (and we don't want to lose any members!).

- You can one engine (e. g. Ferrari factory engine) up to 7 times in the season. But you are able to exchange it as often you want (you don't have to use it all 7 races in a row). 4 additional free changes are available per season.
- We have 9 different engines this year. Each of them can be used 7 times. You are able to use all of them during the season (no limit this year)
- No one can use an engine in more than 7 races (defective engines will score 0 points)

So, to clarify understanding... - If I start the season with the Ferrari 2016 engine, I get up to 7 uses of that EXACT engine? - If I change in race 3 to Ferrari Factory, is that then engine 2, with 7 uses allowed for that over the season? - Someone can't use Ferrari Factory (for example), for more than 7 races? - There are 9 different engine types, so you can only use four of them over a season?

Does this mean I cannot run the same manufacturer's engine for the whole season? You can use the same engine in 7 races during the season. That means that you have to run at least 3 different engines this year. You can exchange an engine as often you want.
The age of an engine is displayed like this: [1/7 R.] used in the first of 7 races [7/7 R.] used in the 7th of 7 races
A defective engine is also indicated by a red symbol.
The engine life time feature is a little bit related to reality, where also engine restrictions are applied (max. 4 engines a year without penalties). So you have to do some engine management during the season.
